Question: Why is .NET and SQL Express Required to Run Quicken Home Inventory Manager?
Quicken Home Inventory Manager will install .NET Framework and SQL Express on your computer if you do not already have it. You cannot run Quicken Home Inventory Manager .NET Framework and SQL Express.
Answer: I asked Jodi Reinman, a Quicken representative the same question, and was told that the first release of Quicken Home Inventory Manager has been built on the new .NET 2.0 platform. Quicken went with this platform because although things are slower starting up Quicken Home Inventory Manager now, performance will be optimized in future releases.
.NET Framework and SQL Express are mentioned during the Quicken Home Inventory Manager installation. These are two software packages which provide features used "behind the scenes" by Quicken Home Inventory Manager to handle interactions with the computer's operating system.
If you have not previously installed the .NET Framework and SQL Express, you must install them before you can use Home Inventory Manager, but they are bundled with Quicken Home Inventory Manager and you do not need to buy them. The installer for Home Inventory Manager will handle downloading and installing .NET Framework and SQL Express if your system doesn't already have them installed.
