Direct Connect

By Shelley Elmblad, About.com

Definition: Direct Connect is used to download transaction updates directly from your financial institution into Quicken account registers. With Direct Connect, you do not need to export files from a source and then import them into your software as the data transport is automated.

Direct Connect is a protocol, or a way for computers to communicate over a network.

Another way to download transactions into financial software is via Web Connect, which differs from Direct Connect in that it downloads via the FI's website. Direct Connect downloads directly from the FI's information systems.
