Introduction to Microsoft Money Tax Category Manager

Microsoft Money tracks tax-related transactions when tax line items are added to [link ur=http://financialsoft.about.com/od/softwaretips/a/Category_Hub.htm]categories[/link]. For example, assigning the category Healthcare to the Schedule A tax line "Doctors, dentists, hospitals" will cause Microsoft Money to designate transactions entered in the Healthcare category as tax deductible. This kind of reporting makes tax management easier throughout the year.

You can decide what categories to assign to tax line items in Microsoft Money by looking over your most recent tax return. If you take a standard deduction on your income taxes, you will have less to track in Money than someone who itemizes deductions.

There are two ways to link categories to tax line items in Microsoft Money. One way is to use the Tax Line Manager which organizes information by tax line. The other is to use the Microsoft Money Tax Category Manager which organizes information by category and is described in this tutorial.
