How Reliable are Online Software Reviews?

Thursday July 5, 2007
Up until a couple of years ago, I could rely on Amazon.com for objective reporting from regular "Joe Consumers" who had actually used the product being sold. I often found these product reviews to be more helpful than Consumer Reports ,which accepts no advertising.

When I read reviews on Amazon now, I need to weed out those that seem nonobjective and written only to sell the product. Don't get me wrong, Amazon is an excellent shopping site. It is not the only web site that has questionable reviews mixed in with truly objective product experiences.

So, can you benefit from online reviews at all? Yes you can, you just need to proceed carefully so as not to be misled. Software reviews can be found all over the Internet, from individual blogs to tech sites to super stores like Amazon.com. Read How to Use Software Reviews and make it a part of your online search for financial software.
