Online Personal Finance Software

Software Name:

Mint

What are the best features in this software?

You can follow several accounts, track trends in spending (how much to I spend on average on lunches), set budgets (it even sends you an email if you run over a budget item this month), plan for savings, track investments, etc. The over all picture of Mint is good.

How could the software improve?

Numerous "known issues" that Mint will not resolve. One is auto-categorization. When information from your bank is vague, it will give a label at random from one of your recent transactions. Unless you monitor it daily you will miss the errors. Mint refuses to turn it off.

How long did you use this software?

6 months to 1 year

How much did you pay?

Free

My Review

Mint has great promise, but it has so many glaring design flaws that i cannot recommend it. Mint help seldom responds to the questions in their forums, and when they do they use boiler plate answers that are only tangentially related to the questions asked.

Occasionally, when pushed the Help person will say that the problem is a "design Flaw" or a "known issue" that they are working on, but are not resolved. I've checked back in the forums, and some "known issue" problems have been complained about for over a year. Mint is a "free" program, but it is so flawed and so unsupported by the company that it's price in terms of time spent monitoring it and correcting it and yelling at it have become too costly to continue with or to recommend to others.

Would you recommend this to a friend?

No
