Attaching Images to Accounts in Quicken
Attach Statements or Other Documentation

by Shelley Elmblad
for About.com

Monthly statements or other information saved in a digital format can be attached to a Quicken account. For example, if you get your checking account statement electronically (off the FI’s website or via email), the attachments can be saved in a useable format for Quicken on your computer.

Each Quicken account can have one statement file attached per day, plus one additional image file.

The image attachment feature is only available in Quicken 2006 and later in Deluxe, Premier, or Home & Business versions. If you need to upgrade your version of Quicken, see Adding Features to Quicken

Before Attaching Images to a Quicken Account

Before you can attach an image to a Quicken snapshot, you must have the image saved on your computer. If you do not know how to save image files to your computer, see Before Attaching Images in Quicken

Get Started with Quicken Account Attachments

  1. Click on and open the Quicken account you want to add the attachment to.

  2. Click on the Overview tab if this is any type of account except an investment account, or the Summary tab if this is an investment account.

  3. Find the Account Attachment snapshot at the bottom of the screen. You may need to scroll down.

  4. Click on the Add button in the Account Attachments snapshot. The Add Attachment window will open.

  5. Follow the directions below to attach a statement or another type of attachment.

To Attach Statements to a Quicken Account

  1. In the Add Attachment window, be sure Statement is selected and not Other Attachment.

  2. Enter a date to identify this statement. This date will be used to represent the statement once it is saved in the Account Attachments snapshot list (for example, 12/31/2006 Statement).
    • Note: Although only one statement per day may be attached, the total number of statement attachments is unlimited.

  3. Select the file you want to attach by clicking on Browse and selecting the file to be save as a Quicken Account Attachment.

  4. Click OK. You will now see your statement attachment in the Quicken Account Attachment snapshot.

To Attach Other Attachments to a Quicken Account

Only one attachment of the type ‘Other Attachment’ can be associated with an account. Once you attach one of these items, the Account Attachments snapshot will show it labeled as ‘Other Attachment’. If you try to add a second Other Attachment, Quicken asks if you want to replace the first one.

  1. In the Add Attachment window, be sure Other Attachment is selected and not Statement. Once Other Attachment is selected, the date will be grayed out and will not be used.

  2. Select the file you want to attach by clicking on Browse and selecting the file to be saved as a Quicken Account Attachment.
