- Top navigation tabs: Main Menu, Federal, State and File. You may use these tabs to navigate through your tax return if you need to change information after it is entered during the interview. The navigation tabs are not used to complete your tax return, TaxCut interview takes care of that. If you are not filing the state return, no information will appear under the State section.
- Prepare My Taxes: see the status of your income tax return here. If you haven't started a return, click on Start. Once you have started a return and saved it, you will click on Continue to work on your return.
- Save your work: To save your return and leave TaxCut Online, click on Save & Quit in the upper right corner of the screen. Save & Quit is on every screen in TaxCut Online, so you can save your work to return to it later at any time.
- Tax Amounts: Above the Help Center, you see your federal refund or tax due amount is as you go through your return. Do not be alarmed if you see you owe federal taxes when you expect a refund since this number fluctuates as you enter your tax data. You enter your income in TaxCut Online before anything else so you will appear to owe federal income taxes before the tax is offset by credits and deductions.
Of you decide to create an optional ($29.95) state return using TaxCut online, you will see the state refund or tax due as you go through the state return.
- Edit or Print Account Information: If you haven't started a return, you will not see 'Edit or Print Account Information' under Manage My Online Account. Once you create an account with a user name and password, you can click 'Edit or Print Account Information' to change your password, security questions or e-mail address.
You can also print your TaxCut account information, but remember that anyone finding your TaxCut Online account information will be able to log into your account.
Getting Around TaxCut - Forward and Back
TaxCut Online does not support using your browser's back and forward buttons and you must use the Back or Next button at the bottom of each screen. The Back and Forward buttons in TaxCut Online are located at the bottom of your browser's screen and you may have to scroll down to find these buttons. If you still do not see the buttons, click on your browser's refresh button.
