Free File tax software is accessed via the IRS web site. Start at IRS - TaxCut Free File. Click on 'Leave IRS Site' to get to TaxCut Free File web site.
To use Free File tax software, you must start off at the IRS Free File web page for TaxCut Free File. Click on Leave IRS Site and you will be brought to the TaxCut Free File web site.
On the TaxCut Free File web page, click on Start Now for Free. After a secure connection is set up, returning users are prompted to log in, while new users need to click on Get Started to create an account immediately or to set up the account later after entering some tax data. Keep in mind that you cannot save your tax return without creating an account.
You will be asked to accept a license agreement, but you should first click the link provided to read the agreement. TaxCut's online agreement includes security tips and privacy information so at least scan the agreement to be familiar with it. Click on the check box to accept the agreement, then click Next.
