Even if you do not plan to replace anything, Microsoft Money Search and Replace will search transactions using a few quick search variables. Simple Search searches across specific account types and produces a list of transactions that meet search criteria rather than
searching one transaction at a time in the account register.
- Start a search in Microsoft Money with Ctrl + H. That is, hold down the Ctrl key, press the H key then release both the Ctrl and H keys. Alternatively, you can start a search in Money by clicking on Tools on the top left, then clicking on Find and Replace.
- Money defaults to a Simple Search across regular accounts. You can change the account type to search across only investments or loans if you need to. If the Simple Search results in too many transactions, do an Advanced Search.
- Next to Find this text, enter text or numbers you want to search for.
- Leave the In this field box at the default setting of Any text field, or click the small arrow head on the right side of the box and select from Category, Payee or other options to narrow the search.
- Click Next to see a list of transactions that match your search criteria.
- Select a transaction to work with by double-clicking on it.
- Click on Replace to change the payee, memo, category or check/transaction number for each transaction selected with check boxes, or for all transactions found.
- Click on Create Report to generate a report that lists transactions with a running balance. This report can be customized using the options on the left under Common tasks or Other tasks.
