What You Need to Know Before Linking Files to Microsoft Money Transactions
Create a Folder for Files Linked to Transactions in Microsoft Money

By , About.com Guide

Before linking any file to transactions in Microsoft Money, create a folder on your hard drive to save images used with Microsoft Money. This folder can be located on your Windows desktop, in My Documents or anywhere else that is convenient on your hard drive.

It is important to have one designated location for files linked to Microsoft Money transactions because:

  1. Locating files in one folder is easier than having files spread across your hard drive, or in a folder with files not used for linking to transactions.

  2. Backing up the individual folder ensures that all linked files are easily backed up at once.

  3. If a linked file is moved or deleted and you try to open it from the link to a transaction in Money, you will get an error message. Keeping all linked files in one folder cuts down on the possibility of accidental moving or deletion.

Files linked with Microsoft Money transactions are not backed up with Money data files. Be sure to add the folder you create to hold the images and other files to your regular back up routine.
