Important: To import multiple accounts into a new Microsoft Money file, you must import all the files at the same time to avoid problems with transfer transactions. You can delete unwanted accounts later.
Before attempting to import accounts to a new data file, you must first export them from the existing data file following these directions.
- Click File >> New.
- In the File Name box, type a name for the new file. Click OK.
- Open the Account List.
- Create a new account with an opening balance of zero for each account that you exported from the other version of Microsoft Money. If you are importing multiple accounts, all accounts must have newly-created accounts with zero balances before you go to step 5 to avoid problems with transfer transactions. Delete any unwanted accounts later.
- Click File >> Import. (For Microsoft Money 2005, click File >> Import >> Recover Accounts).
- In the list of files, click the QIF files that you want to import. To select multiple files, press and hold down the CTRL key as you click to select each file.
- Click Import.
- Click as a new or recovered account, and then click OK.
- In the Select Import dialog box, match the QIF file with the correct account, reading each Select Import dialog box very carefully to understand what data you are importing, and where you are assigning the information in Microsoft Money.
- Click OK. Repeat steps 9 and 10 for each QIF file that you import.
- When Microsoft Money finishes importing the files, click OK.
