To come up with the estimated monthly average for each budget group, Microsoft Money determines the total you save or spend in a budget group and divides that by the number of months you have been using the categories or accounts in that budget group.

You can change the amounts delegated to what you plan to spend or save by entering a new percentage or dollar amount in the last column, but it is best to try to make adjustments by changing the categories or accounts Microsoft Money automatically used. Remember that the Savings and Spending Budget is just meant as a guideline to help you to set goals, so you do not have to adjust anything unless you want to.

Click the blue underlined text for options:

  • Detail under each budget group shows you the categories and accounts allocated to the budget group. You can add or remove categories and accounts to each budget group if needed, and you can move categories and accounts between budget groups if you need to.
  • Click on Amounts in the third column to see what transactions Microsoft Money is using to come up with the average spending for that budget group.

When you are finished with the Automatic Savings Goals, click Next to complete or adjust your budget.
