How To Switch Between Essential and Advanced Registers in Microsoft Money

By , About.com Guide

Use these steps to switch a non-investment account (checking, savings) between the Essential Register and Advanced Registers.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 1 minute once learned

Here's How:

  1. If you are not in the Microsoft Money Account List, click on the Banking tab, then Account List.

  2. Click on the name of the account you want to use in Microsoft Money.

  3. In the light blue pane on the left, you will see the heading Other tasks. Under Other tasks, click on Change account settings.

  4. See Microsoft Money Register Detail in the middle of the page and click on either Switch to the Advanced Registers or Switch to the Essential Register, depending on what you want to do.

  5. Follow the simple instructions that come up to confirm what you want to do and to set this account up for online access in Microsoft Money if you wish to do so.

Tips:

  1. The Essential Account Register can be used only for accounts that you update online. If you choose not to use online updates for the account, Microsoft Money requires you to leave the account in Advanced Account Mode.
  2. These steps cannot be used for Microsoft Money investment accounts.
