iBank 3

by Shelley Elmblad
for About.com

Many Mac users are on the look out for personal finance software that behaves like Mac software vs. adapted PC software while offering a well-rounded feature base. iBank 3 has many features to manage accounts and budgets and to monitor investments, and it sports a new interface which looks and operates like a true Mac application.

Data Imports into iBank

iBank imports enough data formats to support downloading and importing transactions from most financial institutions as well as from most personal finance software you may already be using.

iBank will import OFX (Microsoft Money), QFX (Quicken), QIF (Quicken 2004 and earlier) and CSV files.

My Take on iBank 3

Some iBank users report that entering transactions requires more clicks than necessary, which is cumbersome if you enter a lot of transactions manually and is an issue for those who do not download transactions.

iBank 3 is not complicated but needs to perform some tasks in a more streamlined way. Some features still need some work, but development is continuing. Read iBank's forums for more information.

iBank 3 includes a free trial and a 30-day money back guarantee, although the web site does not indicate how long the trial period is.

Software that has a free trial is worth trying out, and iBank 3 adds some nice new features to previous versions as well as an interface that looks like it is pleasant to work with.

iBank System Requirements, Cost and Further Reading

A new iBank license runs $59.99 while $29.99 will buy an upgrade from iBank 2. If you upgrade, remember to protect your iBank data with a back up in case you decide to go back to version 2 for some reason.
