Requires Microsoft Money Plus 2008 or later.
Open a Linked File
- If you are not already in the Microsoft Money account register that holds the linked transaction you need to use, click on Banking, click Account List, and then click the account you want to use.
- Find the transaction with the link to the file you want to see. You will see a small paperclip icon in the flag field, to the left of the date for that transaction.
- Right-click on the paper clip or anywhere on the transaction, then click on Open Linked File. The application that is associated with the linked file will start up and will open the file. For example, if you linked a Word document to a transaction, Microsoft Word opens. Image files will open in the image viewer set as the default on your computer.
Remove a Linked File
When a link between a Microsoft Money transaction and a file is removed, the only thing that changes is the file association with the transaction. Deleting a file link from a transaction does nothing to change the transaction itself, and the unlinked file remains on your computer until you go to the folder where it is stored and delete it.If you do not delete the file from your computer, it can be linked to another transaction in Microsoft Money. If you accidentally link a file to the wrong transaction, just remove the link and then go to the correct transaction and create the link there.
- If you are not already in the Microsoft Money account register that holds the linked transaction you need to use, click on Banking, click Account List, and then click the account you want to use.
- Right-click on the transaction in the account register which has the file link you wish to remove.
- Click Remove Link to File, then click OK. A confirmation window will pop up so you can tell Microsoft Money that you want to proceed with deleting the file link. If you decide at that time that you want to keep the link between the transaction and the file in place, click on Cancel.
You can learn all you need to know to link files to Money transactions in the free e-course, Linking Files to Microsoft Money Transactions.
