By Shelley Elmblad, About.com

Question: How do I Change a Stock Symbol in Microsoft Money?

Although it happens rarely, companies you track with Microsoft Money could change their stock symbol to reflect a significant change in marketing strategy or for other reasons.

Answer: Changing a stock symbol in Microsoft Money is a fairly simple procedure.

  1. Make sure all transactions that occurred before the stock split are entered. Any transactions recorded after the stock split date in Microsoft Money will assume the post-split information.

  2. If you are not already in your Microsoft Money investment portfolio, click on Investing at the top of the screen.

  3. Under My Investing Tools in the left navigation bar, click on Portfolio Manager. You will now see a list of your investments.

  4. Locate the stock with the symbol you need to change and right click on it. Select Investment Details by left clicking on it.

  5. Delete the current stock symbol in the Symbol field and enter the new stock symbol. Click Done on the lower left to complete the change in Microsoft Money.
