Sunset Policy

Definition: A sunset policy is the policy and terms for phasing out support for older financial software. This does not always mean the software will no longer function, although Internet-based features and data downloads may cease to work. Technical support is no longer available for software that is dated past the date set by the sunset policy.
Also Known As: Planned Obsolescence, Policy of Planned Obsolescence, Internet Services Policy, Retiring Software
Common Misspellings: sun set policy
Examples: After 2009, Quicken 2006 will no longer be supported per Intuit's sunset policy.
