Definition: Internet-based services in financial software consist of automatic account updates and transaction downloads from financial institutions as well as content such as financial news and stock quotes generated online but presented in the software on your computer desktop.

The biggest name in desktop financial software, Quicken, has Internet-based services as do other Windows and Mac financial software.

Internet-based services can also upload your information from your desktop software to a secure website, usually synchronizing your data so you can access it online or one your computer.

Internet-based services can either update your financial information when you click on a command to do so in the software, or the services can operate at automatic intervals that run in the background.
