To use the install file from a software program CD or other media, simply insert the media into the appropriate drive and the software install should begin on its own. If the install does not start automatically, use My Computer to find the media drive and find the Setup file. Double click Setup and your software will be installed.
After purchasing software online and downloading the install file, the file is stored on your computer, often as a zip file.
During the download process, you should be told what the filename is and what the folder this file will be saved to so you can find it easily once the download is complete. You may be given the option to select the location to save the file to. In either case, be sure to make a note of the file location so you can find it to install your software.
After downloading the install file, locate it on your computer, unzip it. If you see a Read Me file, it is a good idea to double click on Read Me and do just that, read it. Then double click on the Install or Setup file to start installing your software.
The process of downloading, unzipping and installing software sounds like a lot of steps, but it really is quick and easy to do.
Install files usually end with .exe, which is a file extension indicating the file is executable in that is starts, or executes, a program.
