Will Microsoft Money Plus Convert Data from an Earlier Version of Money?

By Shelley Elmblad, About.com

Question: Will Microsoft Money Plus Convert Data from an Earlier Version of Money?

If you install Money Plus and you find that it will not convert the data from your old Microsoft Money data file, your old version is probably from Money 2005 or earlier.

Tip: Download the free Microsoft Money Plus trial to try it before you buy Money Plus.

Answer: When your old Microsoft Money data does not convert in Money Plus, Microsoft has a solution: Download a "bridge" version of Microsoft Money that was released between your old version and Money Plus.

Microsoft provides the bridge software for free, along with more information for converting an older version of Money to Money Plus in the Microsoft Money Knowledge Base article 913108. Although this article has the title, You cannot convert Money 99 or Money 98 data files into Money 2006 or later data files, the information and download for the bridge version of Microsoft Money should be the answer to your question.

Read the knowledge base article all the way through since you may need to fiddle with the date in Money Plus or do some other tinkering to get the conversion to work.

If you are trying to restore a back up file from an older version of MS Money to Money Plus, you can try this quick procedure before using the bridge version solution.
