How to Create Passwords for Quicken Data Files

By , About.com Guide

2 of 3

Select the Quicken File Password

Your Quicken file password only protects the Quicken data file currently open. Most people only use one Quicken data file, but if you use multiple data fails be sure that file you are working in is the one you want to assign the password to.

In Quicken, click on File menu > Passwords > File. Type the password of your choice in the Password field.

Keep in mind:

  • The Quicken file password can be any combination of letters and numbers, up to 15 characters long.

  • Quicken passwords are case sensitive: if you designate 53JK9 as your Quicken file password, you will need to capitalize the J and K each time you enter your password. The password 53jk9 is not the same as 53JK9.

  • Choose passwords carefully. Quicken file passwords cannot be retrieved once set, and can only be removed by Intuit Data Services for a fee.
