Q. What is financial software?

A. Financial software is software used to manage money. There are specific financial software packages that only provide account registers or provide a focus on budgeting, and there is financial software that packs in many features to manage accounts, savings goals, investments, bills and more. This site specifically covers personal finance software and small business finance software. See Why Use Financial Software?

Q. I can't get my financial software to work correctly, can you help?

A. I cannot do tech support, but if you post your question in the About Financial Software Forum, either I or another reader will assist you. If I do not have the answer myself, I will direct you to a support option.

Q. Why can't I just email my questions to you?

A. Like all guides, I'm a real person. As much as I enjoy helping people to use their software effectively, my time is limited and I can not provide personal responses to questions about using or choosing software via email. Please post your questions in the forum.

Q. Which financial software package is the best?

A. There is no one financial software package that is best for everyone, it depends on individual needs. Read through my software reviews to see what features are available at what cost. Use the About Financial Software Forums to ask others their opinions.

Q. Why are there ads on this site? How do I report an offensive ad?

A. The ads on About Financial Software keep the web site free to readers. I do not select the ads, and all ads should be relevant to the topic. I cannot possibly monitor ads on this site, so if you encounter an ad you find to be irrelevant or offensive, please fill out the Customer Care Problem Report Form.

Q. How do I find information on this site?

A. On the left of each web page on About Financial Software, you will find links that take you to the information you need. Starting at the top left are the Essentials with the most important software information. Next are Topics links which define subsections of financial software. The Buyer's Guide provides software buying advice. Last are links to the forum and latest and most popular article.

Q. How do I subscribe or unsubscribe from newsletters, change my address for newsletter, or set a new forum password?

A. Subscribe to my newsletter here. Change the email address your newsletters go to or unsubscribe from a newsletter by using the unsubscribe link at the bottom of a newsletter. For problems with the forum or site-specific issues, use the Customer Care Problem Report Form. Do not send financial software questions to Customer Care, post these questions in the forum.

Q. I am a software developer. How do I get my software reviewed on this site?

A. Due to time constraints, I may not be able to review all software submitted. If I do not review the software, I will likely mention it in my blog. I will only consider desk top or online software to manage personal finances or small business accounting. If your software falls into this category, you can email the details of your product to financialsoft.guide@about.com.
