Dumb Tax Software Mistakes

By , About.com Guide   March 13, 2009

Follow me on:

Although income tax preparation software like TaxCut, TurboTax and others perform accurate calculations and put the numbers on the right lines on your tax return you can still make errors while using tax software. There are some things that tax software just can't do for you and Gail Buckner outlines those things quite nicely on the Fox Business web site.

Some things that you need to do that tax software can't do are:

  • Enter the correct social security numbers for you, your spouse or children.
  • Enter the correct birt hdate for you or others listed on your tax return.
  • Answer your questions for you: read the questions the tax software asks you carefully.
So, basically, this tells you to be sure to take your time when you use tax software and read the questions the software asks you carefully to fill out your return accurately.
