PC World on NEAT Receipts

Saturday May 17, 2008
Neat Receipts received a mention in Steve Bass's Tips & Tweaks on PCWorld this week. Steve likes to use Neat Receipts to scan his receipts then import them into QuickBooks or a PDF file to submit with expense reports.

Neat Receipts also exports transaction data to Quicken and Microsoft Money, and you can learn more about in my Neat Receipts Review.

Another receipt scanning option is Shoeboxed.com, which has a free option. I gave the Shoeboxed site a quick look-over and it appears that you can use the free version to scan and upload receipts. I didn't find anything that said Shoeboxed works with any scanner, and the recommended scanner they were selling from the site said it was currently unavailable with no price. Shoeboxed says it will export data to Excel, Quicken, CSV, or PDF formats, but if you are using Quicken 2005 or later, be sure QFX data is supported (not OFX) or you will only be able to import transactions into cash accounts.

Shoeboxed is free, so worth a try if you want to store your receipts online. You can also mail your receipts in to Shoeboxed (for a fee) and they will scan them for you.

It wasn’t really my impression that Shoeboxed was ever really selling a scanner, just sort of recommending on. NEway, I’ve been using Shoeboxed for a while and really like it. jUst send it in an envelope and forget about it.
