Quicken Basic Upgrade Rebate Changes

By , About.com GuideFebruary 13, 2008

Follow me on:

When I wrote my Quicken 2008 Review a few months back, I noted that Quicken Basic was no longer available. There is now a Quicken Starter Edition, but it does not import data from other Quicken versions so Quicken Basic users have to upgrade to Quicken Deluxe or higher. Of course, Quicken Deluxe or higher costs quite a bit more than Quicken Basic did, so Intuit threw in a $20 price reduction on Quicken Deluxe at selected retailers along with a $10 rebate to ease the pain of trading up. That deal had an expiration date of July 31, 2008.

So today after reading Quicken's Double Cross on ComputerWorld Blogs (agree with some observations, disagree with others in that post), I decided to check the link to the rebate offer in my Quicken 2008 review and I discovered that there is now a $30 rebate instead of the store discount/rebate combo. That's good. This latest rebate ends on April 30, 2008, three months earlier than the previous discount/rebate deal. That's bad.

I am updating my Quicken review to reflect this change and if you want to upgrade Quicken Basic to Quicken Deluxe 2008 or higher, do it before April 30 to use the rebate (under Limited Time Offer). Of course, you can opt to use Quicken Basic 2006 and 2007 as long as it is supported per the sunset policy.

You'll need to prove you own Quicken Basic with a photocopy of the software CD or floppy disk, or a screen shot of About Quicken (click Help, About Quicken).

Has anyone SUCCESSFULLY obtained the rebate information? I have clicked through to the $30 rebate page at least 10 times over the past several months (Quicken has been sending me repeated emails on the topic) and have gotten an error every time that does not allow the page to load and display. The only rebate I can successfully find via internet searching is a combo rebate by also purchasing TurboTax, which I do not need.

Please let me know if there is a different way to obtain the paperwork for the $30 rebate on upgrading Quicken Basic to Quicken Deluxe 2008, thanks!

Yes, I just successfulyl obtained the rebate in PDF format which I could print on my printer. Once you go to the rebate page, you have to click on the blue link to the $30 rebate on the lower right side, which isn’t something I instinctly knew to do and had to kind of search for it. You can try this link to get the rebate form: http://www.newquicken.com/basicrebate (requires free Adobe reader or other software that reads PDF files)
