TurboTax and TaxCut on Windows Vista

Friday February 2, 2007
I have verified that TurboTax and TaxCut both run on Windows Vista. The TurboTax site confirms this and I confirmed TaxCut running on Vista with an H&R Block spokesperson after finding no information on the TaxCut site.

I will be updating TurboTax Features, Versions and Prices and Taxcut Features, Versions and Prices with system requirements so those buying new computers running Vista or who are upgrading to Vista will know that the top two income tax preparation software packages will run on the new operating system.

I just tried to print my return on Vista, and it can’t see any of the printers (which all work with other programs) Reinstalling per Taxcut FAQ didn’t help….

TaxCut Home & Business does NOT work on vista. The “chat” help folks hang up when the problem is explained. After buying the product at Sams, we’re going to return it.

Clicking on the “update” button always generates the following error:

“Run Time error 339 Component comdlg32.ocx or one of it’s dependencies not correctly registered a file is missing or invalid”

cmdlg32.ocx is part of VBasic. I installed the VB developer environment and confirmed that the OCX is working. I installed the previous version of VB (5). I found and manually registered the comdlg32.ocx. It still reports the error.

Absolutely zero help. The website is awful! You shouldn’t bet your business on software that doesn’t properly install!

did you try ti install tax cut on vista? I have done everything they told me to and it DOES NOT INSTALL. To verify means you tried it yourself. Of course their phone reps tel you it is compatible, but they have not installed it either.

(5) Shelley says:

I just successfully installed TaxCut on my new Vista laptop with no problems.

The error reported in the post from 1/30/08 sounds like something TaxCut needs to patch to me, although I am not a database expert…not even close.

I recently purchased and downloaded H&R Block home and business to my computer and I use vista OS. The home portion installed and seems to work fine. The business portion installed but won’t open. When I try to open it, it popsup “This program doesnot have the correct permissions set & is unable to complete the task.” I was on the phone with Hs&R support for three hours trying to resolve the problem and no sucess. Any Suggestions?

I had problems on vista too, it kept complaining about not having enough HD space. Running setup as administrator did the trick. Explore the CD/DVD drive, right click on the tcauto.exe file and choose run as administrator.

TurboTax does not update successfully on Vista. I don’t believe this to be the fault of TurboTax as my entire Vista OS stopped allowing updates via Windows Update in October. I have an open incident with Microsoft on the OS issue, but they have no resolution. A quick google of “Vista Windows Update fails” shows this to be a common issue.

TaxCut Premium Federal does NOT work on Windows Vista. I kept getting the following error code: Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component. {A01F-C8B3B9A1E18E} HRESULT: 0×80073712. TaxCut online no longer has support for install problems that I could see. Fortunately, I had Windows XP on another computer.

(10) mario says:

If you have Vista and .NET 3.5 installed on your system - TurboTax (2008) Deluxe will not work.
TurboTax (2008) requires .NET 2 to work. Its installation program needs to find .NET 2 or verify that you don’t have .NET on your system at all to proceed with installation. If you do not have . NET, TurboTax will proceed with .NET 2 installation and then with TurboTax installation.
So if your system is current with updates you are out of luck.
Intuit you blew it this year.

I am running TaxCut on Vista without problems until I try to import data from Deduction Pro. I get a Windows Dialog Box that says:
“TaxCut has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

I don’t see any additional information. Any guidance?

I loaded Taxcut just fine on Vista and got my federal return all ready. Then I was waiting for the state program to be released. I tried to download the state program and it says there is an error with windows installer. I was on the phone for 1.5 hours with taxcut tech and they have escallated my problem. They also found out that my federal updates were not downloading even though it said it was. They are supposed to call me back within 48 hours. Well that time is up and I haven’t heard from them yet.

(16) Mad As H*ll says:

Taxcut 2008 absolutely DOES NOT install on Vista 32bit if it is updated ‘properly’.

I’ve used TC since the 1990s and prefer it since it includes personal and business returns and a TON of forms that aren’t on Ttax, etc. I’ve used Ttax in the last 2 years and really looked forward to going back to Taxcut. OH MY GOD! Was I in for a shock.

I tried installing as Admin, etc, etc, etc. There’s a comment here that says if you have .NET 3.5 installed that’s the problem. That may be it but I don’t have time to find out.

TAXCUT, you have screwed up this year! I WILL NOT buy your program until I read on your own support boards that you support Vista 32 ABSOLUTELY.
